Project Excerpts

Welcome to my project archive! Included in the archive are parts of projects that didn’t make it into my main portfolio.

  1. iris: an AR mapping system for inside buildings

  2. Snooze: early detection for sleep apnea

  3. Zales Jewelry Collection: sold in stores nationwide

Introducing iris

The idea for Iris stemmed from a common frustration with the limitations of Google Maps and similar navigation applications. These systems help us navigate to a specific building with ease, but we can still have a hard time navigating inside the buildings. For public spaces, such as school buildings or museums, the signs on the walls are often insufficient for finding our final destinations.

Iris can help users trying to locate a final exam or meet up with a loved one in a crowded location. There are three core technologies used to create Iris. Radio frequency signals keep track of user locations through a mesh of WiFi enabled devices. The devices use a technique called localization to estimate your position with great accuracy. It creates paths based of available floor plan information, and utilizes native augmented reality capabilities to create paths and detailed visuals. Users can be apprised of other party members who are utilizing the app, or track the location of any Iris wristbands that they have connected to.

Time to Snooze…

In conjunction with a company who specializes in creating products for sleep apnea, my team decided to create a mobile app service with the goal of “early detection” for sleep apnea, with the option to share data with clinicians and loved ones.

In the realm of sleep apnea, the opportunities surrounding ‘early detection’ and ‘tracking’ intrigued the team. Through our domain research, we found that early detection from the partner’s perspective has untapped potential. Our research highlighted the importance of the partner as the catalyst, motivation, and active support role to help people start and continue treating their sleep apnea.

Everyone wants to be healthy, and they want their loved ones to be healthy, but no one wants to admit that they have a problem. Our solution not only aids people in achieving a healthier life, but also creates healthier relationships, and healthier businesses.

a SCAD x Zales Collaboration…

During my time at SCAD, I was part of a collaborative project between Zales and the jewelry department. The collaboration had 15 students who all worked together to create designs that were later produced and sold in Zales stores.
